Projects

I've been interested in web design for almost as long as I've had internet access. I started with a basic HTML guide and a personal site hosted on a free ISP host. Since then my sites have come and gone and, as I taught myself to do more and more, they became more sophisticated and more interesting to others. In 2005 I was commissioned to build my first commercial website, a hobby which I continue to this day.

Below are the details of some of my key projects, some built for myself and some built for others. Those that are still online can be visited from this page. Others have disappeared over the years and so are only referred to in passing.

Current Projects

Kimpton Primary School
Kimpton Primary School - 2009
This is the second version of the Kimpton Primary School Website. I was commissioned by the school to provide an updated site for the school to reflect the massive advances in web technologies and standards that had taken place in the intervening three years. This version is based on the Joomla Content Management System and features many advances over the original, including improved security, a new layout and menu system and RSS support.

Past Projects

markglover.co.uk
markglover.co.uk - 2008
markglover.co.uk is the site you are currently viewing, as well as my most recent project. Although not nearly as complex as my blog, it has presented a number of learning opportunities, and is my first site to embrace all the latest web design standards, including fully integrated CSS and inter browser compatibility. I shall use knowledge gained on this project for use in future work I receive.

99 Red Balloons
99 Red Balloons - 2006
99 Red Balloons was a project commissioned by a friend at extremely short notice to form part of a university project. Although the site was never brought up to the standard of others, it functioned correctly, was built entirely without the aid of an existing Content Management System and allowed me to further expand my PHP knowledge.

Ignorminious' Misty Mind
Ignorminious' Misty Mind - 2006
Ignorminious' Misty Mind was my personal blog, which I developed from scratch and have built up over the years. It remained my longest running and only ongoing project, as I sought to add more features and new technologies to it over the years. It featured my own Content Management System and uses Java Script and XML, in addition to PHP and HTML. In November 2008 I took the difficult decision to switch to using WordPress, as I no longer had the time to maintain the blog and resist the frequent attacks by hackers that the site was subjected to.

Kimpton Primary School
Kimpton Primary School - 2006
Kimpton Primary School was my first public sector client, and represented my biggest challenge yet. This site, which I built entirely myself, required me to develop a comprehensive content management system designed for end users with varying levels of computer literacy. This site remained active until I built the current site in September 2009 and was frequently praised by visitors for its design and functionality.

Tilsmere Ltd
Tilsmere Ltd - 2005
Tilsmere was my second commercial site, developed hot on the heels of the TConsult site and commissioned by the same organisation. As with the first, this site was built on a pre-existing content management system, although the needs of the site meant extensive modification and additional PHP scripts had to be written. This project was delivered on time and remained active until July 2009.

TConsult Ltd
TConsult Ltd - 2005
TConsult Ltd was the first commercial site I was commissioned to build in early 2005. Due to the technical demands of the site and a tight project deadline, I elected to adapt an existing content management system, rather than develop my own. The project was delivered on schedule and to the satisfaction of the client. It remained active for several years.
This site is no longer online.
